Timothy Mkandawire

Grant Finance Manager - Global Fund

Timothy Kausipa MKANDAWIRE is currently Lead Financial Management Policy Specialist at the African Development Bank Group in the Fiduciary Services and Inspections Department (SNFI). He has over 25 years of diverse experience in the areas of development, notably fiduciary, project management, political economy, operational policy, finance, audit, advisory services and country dialogue, in both private and public sectors.


Up until his new role, Timothy has served in the Bank as a Regional Financial Management Coordinator responsible for 13 countries in East Africa Region, supervising over 6 Financial Management Specialist, as Fragility and Resilience expert and Project Task Team Lead. During this period, he has championed a number of country fiduciary risks assessments, designed and implemented complex multi-country and multi-sector projects, led policy formulations and developed a number of analytical tools and guidelines for measuring and assessing fiduciary risks, fragility and resilience. He has also served as a capacity development resource person in fiduciary and fragility issues across the Bank’s regional member countries.


Prior to joining the Bank, he was a Director of Finance and Administration at the water utility company in Malawi, Audit Supervisor at Coopers and Lybrand and Internal Auditor at Debswana Diamond Company in Botswana. He holds Master of Science (MSc) in Financial Management with Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Maastricht School of Management (MsM) – Netherlands, a Bachelor of Accountancy (B.Acc) degree from the University of Malawi and a Certificate in Financial Markets from Yale University. He is also a Fellow of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) from United Kingdom, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), USA, and Chartered Accountant (CA) Malawi.
